When it comes to completing past papers to revise for my unit 4 mock I always find the organic synthesis questions which require stating facts really difficult. Has anyone got some really good notes or useful ways to remember methods of organic synthesis including reagents and conditions etc. it would be much appreciated!

My teacher got us to do a synthesis map, it's so useful. Start of with an alkene and see what other compounds you can make from that. Then using the new compounds you've made see if you can go even further.
For example, starting off with ethene, you can get ethane, which can then give you ethanol. You can oxidise this to give you an aldehyde then a carboxylic acid. This then can be used to make an ester and so on. On your map use different colours for the names and labelling the mechanisms. Also put down all the reagents required, and use a specified colour for the functional groups.
I suggest you may need to do a separate map for aromatics and amines, but with a bit of thinking you might be able to combine it all to make one map.
Hope that helps.
