edexcel A2 history books

can anyone recommend any good books for edexcel A2 history unit 3 option C1 'The United States, 1820-77: A Disunited Nation?'? I've got the American Civil War textbook by Alan Farmer but we've been told we need to do some extra reading that isn't from textbooks so I'm trying to find a book by a historian that ideally covers the whole period. thanks :smile:
