hello. 19 year old girl, very skinny. tired of seeing nearly-nothing breasts and butt. metabolism is so high, so eating the regular amount of calories required each day barely maintains my body weight. i lose it way too easily and it really upsets me. any suggestions? apart from just 'eating more' ..

I'm sorry to say, but there is no more to it than eating more. Gaining weight is a matter of calories in > calories out.
If you find it difficult to eat enough, then try foods high in calories such as nuts, peanut butter, pasta, rice, rolled oats, you could even add more oil into your diet.
I dunno, I'm not so great with high calorie foods. I prefer to eat tons of low calorie stuff when I'm looking to gain weight, mainly because I'm somewhat of a greedy pig.
You could try weight gainer shakes. Basically pure powdered carbohydrate, you can add in a LOT of calories with a single shake.
Even the hectic won't be burning more than 3000 calories a day. It isn't hard to find foods with a high calorific value. When you do, open the packet and eat.

Actually, that simply isn't true. I eat 3000-3500 calories a day, and I'm bulking up, and I'm still gaining a bit of flab with the muscle. Plenty of my friends eat easily 4000 calories a day and don't gain any weight. They're skinny as hell, in fact. Plenty of ectomorphs burn more than 4000 calories a day.

Either your friends are athletes/particularly active, or are lying about how much they eat.
OP, no idea how active you are, but ingest more calories than you expend, and you'll put on weight. Rocket science it ain't.
OP- like LadyEnglish suggested snacking is a really good way to boost your overall calorie intake without stuffing yourself. Good snacks to eat are:
bowls of cereal (ideally not high sugar ones) dark chocolate toast and peanut butter (ideally wholemeal) pitta bread with hummus nuts (these are brill as they aren't very filling but are really good for you as they contain essential fatty acids)
The good thing about eating snacks is that it means you don't have to stuff yourself silly at meal times and they make sure that your blood sugar level stays stable throughout the day.
If you exercise, try to cut down on the cardio and up the weight training to help gain some nice healthy muscle (don't worry it will NOT bulk you up).

I dunno what friends you have...but I eat 3-4000 kcal a normal day, and I am not extremely active although I train about 4hrs a week at the gym, but that is not and excessive amount. (Actually when I had a cold last time and couldn't train and cut down on my intake due to the fact that I barely could swallow I lost weight (3kg in a week) when eating about 2000-2500kcal/day)Most of my male friends eat around 3000 and the ones training more than me even can have an average intake of 4000 kcal. I also have female friends that are not active and easily eat over 2500kcal without putting on weight.
And the the OP, as most have said - just eat more carbs!
^Do you follow your friends around with a calculator, totting up calories consumed?
And as for your losing weight when eating 2000-2500 calories during illness- of course, that's bound to happen! You're taking in fewer calories than your body's used to expending.
Or, alternatively, you don't know what you're talking about.
Look up somatotypes and ectomorphs on Wikipedia.
Followed your advice, looked at Wiki....
Sheldon’s “somatotypes” and their associated psychological traits can be summarised as follows: (Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph.)
Disecting a cadaver and weighing the tissue broken down into the three layers of origin renders results that support Sheldon’s thesis, but only to a degree. Sheldon himself was more a behavioral psychologist than either an anatomist or a physiologist. His behavioral conclusions were based largely on interviews which he or his students carried out over a long span of time, and the actual psychometric data was often more suggestive than conclusive.

Lol, no... But I do have some sense of what a plate of food contains in terms of kcal when I look at it. I mean surely 15 potatoes ('normal' size) and 25 meatballs is quite a lot of kcal... and if I then know what their gainers contain I have a pretty good picture of it, and actually one might even talk to them about kcal intake .
