Transferring from St. Andrews to Oxbridge

I am an American who wants to transfer into Oxbridge as a student starting his first year at the end of my first year as a neuroscience student at St. Andrews. What type of grades should I have if I want to transfer? Which university should I apply to? Which college should I apply to if I want to study Neuroscience or Biology?
Thanks :-D

oxbridge does not accept transfer students. You would either have to apply from scratch next year or apply as an affiliated applicant when you finish your MA at St Andrew's. You could also apply for post-grad courses of course.

Can I apply to Oxford as a transfer student?

A student cannot transfer to Oxford to complete a course begun elsewhere. Graduates of other universities who wish to undertake a Second BA at Oxford may be given Senior Status, which would mean that they could start at the second year of the course. Oxford also has a Visiting Student programme.

I think you misunderstood. I wanted to apply as a student entering his first year aka. Start my degree from scratch. I have heard that Oxbridge likes U.S. students to have taken a year of university before they apply because of the way A levels work.
"A student cannot transfer to Oxford to complete a course begun elsewhere." This makes it sound like they don't want you to transfer in as a second year student but I might have misunderstood it.
Thanks for the help

Have you looked at the prospectuses for each & the courses actually on offer?
Off the top of my head those would approximate:

Cambridge - Natural Sciences, which could possibly incorporate both Neuroscience & Biology in the broader sense - I don't know much about it!

Oxford - Biological Sciences (which I think has some Neuro options) or Physiology (definitely has a neuroscience option along with other human focussed biology) or Experimental Psychology (which has oodles of Neuroscience) or perhaps PPP (which is Physiology Psychology & Philosophy - you have control over relative amounts).

Your choice of university might be driven by the one that has the course you prefer the look of! :p:

Which would be friendlier in the application process to a U.S. student who is in my situation?

It would probably best if you gave the admissions office a ring to find out. They'll be able to advise you about what could be done as your circumstances quite unusual.

Oh right, try calling the admissions office up, although if you were planning for 2007 entry the deadline has passed you know.

Well it passes tomorrow

I am confused ... I saw this on their website

"It is now too late to apply as a Visiting Student for the academic year 2006-7.

New application material for the academic year 2007-8 will be available to download shortly. If you would like to receive a paper copy please email your request, including your postal address, to [email protected]. Applications will be accepted between 1 January and 1 February 2007. "

That's for Oxford's Visiting Student Programme. If you wanted to actually go to Oxford or Cambridge as a proper student (ie. for a full degree, not just spend 6 months or whatever it is at Oxford and then go back to your university) you'd have to apply just like we do, though internationals have a slightly earlier deadline I think. Ours is 15 October. You'd have to complete a CAF/OAF and go through UCAS for it too (but you'd have to do this in the next admissions cycle now, by the end of September 2007 for entry in 2008).
