Making yourself sick...Mild ED?

Basically whenever i have a stressful period in my life, i get bad eahting habits- i binge, sometimes not too badly- but sometimes really, really badly, so im actually in pain and feel sick. I dont always make myself sick, but sometimes i go through phases of throwing up...should i see a doctor? or is it ok if its not all the time? i dont want to seem like a drama queen:frown:

No you shouldn't see a doctor, you should stop eating until you feel sick lol

my point is that how bulimia starts out? i mean, i dont make myself sick every day but could it get worse

glad you found it funny-but i dont

You should just learn some self control and try and keep yourself to 3 meals a day, no more and no less

If you can't stick to it maybe you do have a problem

I think bulimia is more about body image than stress so I wouldn't worry about that.
Although it's not good that you feel like this, even if it is only caused by stress. I would see a doctor if I were you and ask to be referred to a pyschologist of some sort - just to try and sort out the causes of your eating habits.
Hope you get it sorted out soon.

Thats utterly stupid. Having Eating problems isn't just a case of "you have no self control". It's like telling somebody with a restrictive eating disorder to "just eat" - it doesn't work like that.

To the OP - It may be an idea to speak to your doctor, if you can. Making yourself sick is netither productive nor healthy, and it can very easily get out of control. It might be useful to have a look at the Effects of Bulimia (link) and How do I know if I have Anorexia or Bulimia? (link)

I'm in no position to make any diagnoses, but it does sound like you could have eating problems of some sort - more so than the average Joe. It sounds like you could use some stress relief ideas; many people resort to controlling - or losing control - of their eating when going through problems of some sort. You can get past this and find more suitable coping mechanisms, and any doctor worth their salt will take somebody who makes themselves sick seriously - or seriously enough to not just label them as a "drama queen"!

Take care of yourself,
Jo

i do something similar, i posted a msg on here once to see if somone else did it aswell but noone could relate..when i get really really stressed out worried and/or have had a big shock i just jam my fingers down my throat..i dont binge like you before hand but i definitely actively want to make my self sick.....i think its becasue its a 'release' of some sort and it exhausts me so i feel more relaxed after if that makes sense (you know, how you feel tired but sooo much better after youve felt ill and then vomited and you feel ok agsin)....i wouldnt consider it an eating disroder more a form of self harm or something...but if you're like me and you only do this on rare occassions and it has nothing to do with body image and you live a healthy food filled life the rest of the time then id say its not an eating disorder adn more to do with self harm and 'control' it would be better for us to find somother way of coping with stress!.

im glad to have found someone else that does this

As someone who has been through a similar thing, i would definately say go see someone. I used to binge when i was bored or stressed and then make myself sick. But from that it developed until i was making myself sick every day. I'm an athlete and with pressure from my coach etc it was also about keeping to a certain weight, so maybe that's slightly different. I never told anyone, which was why it got so much worse. I would definately go see someone - it's so important to break the habit before it develops so that you can't control it.

Incidentally now i'm pretty much recovered. I still relapse during stressful times and i think it's something i'll always have to a degree but honestly i would just go have a chat with your doctor, your body is a very important thing. Starting to tell people was a very important step in recovery for me.

^ Well done on your recovery. It is hard at stressful times and I find that my eating habits certainly are not healthy when I am stressed (have suffered with eating problems in the past).

I think it is best to go and see someone even if you aren't making yourself sick on a regular basis. It is unhealthy to do it at all and like the above poster said it can lead on to be a regular pattern that is hard to get out of. If you tackle the problem now, there is a much better chance that you can get out of the binge/ throw up cycle. Also if you go and see someone you can learn some new and more effective and healthy ways of dealing with stress (like exercise for example).

Good luck- I hope that things are better for you soon.

I do this as well. I'm actually going through a period right now I seem to stuff myself sick whenever I'm stressed and I tell my self that I'll get so sick that I'll throw it all up so it won't matter and this usually happens and then I go through periods when food disgusts me and I just want to drink coffee but I dont consider myself to be someone with an ED I've been told its all hormonal. And it will stop eventually but I'm not bothered either way. too much on my mind with uni anyway.

I would seriously get some form of help if this continues
