So I hear that the night life isn't that great at Surrey as there are only 2 clubs locally, one of which is on campus (Rubix) but is this actually true? Are they not as good as london clubs? Is it easy to get into london from surrey or is it a bit of a trek getting back/there?

I'm a DJ myself and was also wondering if Rubix let students DJ on nights?

Guildford isn't a huge town, so there are a limited number of clubs in the town. There are however a large number of bars and pubs. The club on campus, Rubix has a large number of events going on (take a look at the Students' Union Facebook page to get an idea of the kind of things they do!), its got a 1,400 capacity and there are three bars in Rubix in total. If you really wanted to, you'd be able to find somewhere to go out every single night, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing that!!

London is 30 minutes away from Surrey, during my time as a student here we used to go up on occasion but usually just stuck to town / Rubix. It doesn't take too long at all - depending where you go. Students also go down to Portsmouth, to Reading or other towns locally.

In terms of letting students DJ, there will definitely be opportunities for you to do this. Student often do sessions in the 'Living Room' which is part of Rubix - once you build up a good reputation with the Students' Union it is likely they might let you play up in the main club too. You'd also potentially be interested in joining the student radio station, where you could have your own show.

Does this help a little?

I don't know anything about DJ opportunities, but I can touch upon nightlife a little! There are more than 2 clubs locally if you're including going into Guildford, which is a short walk from campus, so easy to get to! There's Rubix on campus, the night club, and there's Wates on campus which is a pub and a lot more casual. There are also two other bars on campus but they're sadly shutting down soon.

In terms of Guildford, there's a range of different places to go to - Wetherspoons, Casino, Tickled Ivory, Pop world, other bars and clubs, lots of which have student nights which tend to be busy. Guildford isn't so great at the weekends, most student nights being in the week, but London is an option and a short train journey away. The only problem would be getting back if you wanted to leave London before 5/6am. It's really easy to get to London, but really depends on what time you want to come back as to how easy it will be.
