I'm in this situation too, I'm quite in to sports like swimming and would love to get laser eye surgery...if I could afford it! I think it'll be the first thing I'll buy when I graduate!

lol me too. I don't mean to have it from a vain perspective, it's just sometimes CL's can be so fiddly, and although for studying and things i dont mind wearing glasses, its nice not to have to wear them sometimes!

hi, my neighbour had it done not that long ago... she was told that she would'nt be able to see 100% for about 48hrs...so she did it over the weekend and booked a couple of days off...

she also had a reaction to it which made her tired and irritable but that only lasted a few days and now she's glasses free:smile:

You can go swimming with contacts. Just use good water-proof goggles. Can't go swimming just now coz my bro broke my goggles and I'm too skint to buy a new pair, but as soon as I'm in the money again (wonder when that will ever happen...), I'll get new ones and go swimming with my contacts.

My mum and cousin have both had it- and now they never have to wear glasses. I want to have it in the future, but only when it is 100% certain that nothing bad can happen. When it comes to my eyes, even a 1% risk is waaayy too much.

I totally agree, that's the main reason why I'm still really undecided.
I see the benefits of it, but then again I don't want to risk anything lol, especially concerning my eyes !!!
:p:

uhuh, but i figured by the time my eyes have settled and i'm ABLE to get it, they would have progressed so much, it'll be fine.

Yeah same! When the risk level goes down I will be first in queue! (when I have the money...lol) The thing is you can go swimming with goggles on, but you can't dive wearing them which is what I like to do. And I feel completely blind not wearing glasses or contacts, so that's not really an option either!

It is worrying to think that our eyes could get worse, not better! But by the time I can afford to have it done, the risk level should have gone down...I would think!

When the technique is well tested, I think I'll have it done..lol

Well, I only swim lengths (sooooooooooooooo boring, but good for you  ) so that's why I'm ok wearing goggles.
Same here, this 1% is way too much for me. I'd rather go on wearing CL and glasses for the rest of my life than risking to end up blind.
This reminds me I should get a new pair of glasses, mine are really old and not fit for my sight anymore. More money to spend...

me too.. the cumulative amount of money I spend on CL's and glasses must be quite high! lol

And you can't have it done until you're 21.

I'm having mine done the day after my 21st!

Indeed... I heard you can get designer glasses cheaper at Specsavers if you're on the direct debit scheme for contacts with them. I'll probably go next month. But then again, I'd like to save money to go to T in the park in July...

The long term effects are still unknown and I am quite skeptical at the procedures that can cost from £700 per eye. I value my sight and will pay 10 times that. Anyway, as a future medic I am sure I will get the unofficial story, well I hope.

I have to confess, the fact that the prices seem to be relatively inexpensive (although If i decided to get it done Id have to save up lol!)
compared to the priceless value of sight.

p.s good look with Med school  I hope to pursue the same career.

I know someone for whom it went wrong. He walks with a cane now. Put me right off.

I think it laser treatment puts your vision up to 20/20 (perfect sight) but it can still deteriate with age, but it just sorta gives it a new starting point?

I really need an eye test but I'd rather wait until my HC1 form clears! I'm not paying for an eyetest at uni!
