I'm trying to write an essay for the question;
"Assess sociological explanations of the role of the mass media in creating moral panics about crime and deviance."
I have Cohen, Hall, and criticisms.
The mark scheme for this question suggests using Young's idea of the iceberg effect and the exclusive society, I understand how the iceberg effect can be applied to moral panics but not exclusive society.
I also feel like this isn't enough, for this question can I talk about the mass media as a whole (Felson, glamourising crime, left realists) or can I only focus on the moral panic aspect of the mass media?

I have definitely noticed things like this happening a lot lately, the media was definitely massively irresponsible over the Michael Brown killing, almost like they wanted to create a race war.

To be honest, I think a lot in the media now are actually criticising UKIP on purpose to instigate support for them. Its simply reverse psychology. They know by doing it that the people will rebel and support UKIP even more.
