Standing to attention for a long time-tips please.

Hello,
I have to stand to attention for between 45 and 60 minutes at parade next year and if I can't I'll miss out. I was hoping someone could give me advice on how the army does it-like those Queen's guard who stand still for ages with no expression. My record has been 44 minutes then I felt like going the toilet so did but I'm not sure I could that on a hot day or in front of a 1000 people.

Hope you can help, I can't find any information like this on google or ask.

Rock backwards and forwards on your toes, keeps your circulation going.

What's the occasion anyway?
I believe they tense and relax their muscles in their feet / legs, this cause blood to pump through the legs, and helps to stop them passing out.

The occassion is at Windsor for scouts. I wish to troop the colours. Cheers

Well you won't get charged if you FUBAR so that's a pos

Ensure you are well hydrated and go for a waz just before you head off to form up.

That's about all you can do mate.

Thats right, I have done this and my dad did it. Just scrunch up your toes... keep the circulation going

Practice standing still for about 5-10 minutes the night before.
Do some stretches and make sure that you're not itchy or anything beforehand.

I thought the title was an euphemism...

It's not that hard.
Down to disipline, as an NCO in Army Cadets Ive done it for 4 hours once.

Simple relax, tense the muscles in you're legs and relax to keep blood following there, circulate the toes to keep the blood following through the feet, pick a point and look dead ahead. 1 hour is easy, nobody passes out after 1 hour as long as you've even and drank plenty before...

You mean you were naughty at cadets, so they made you stand at attention for 4 hours? Drill isn't supposed to be used as a punishment.
dude you should easily be able to do an hour, just get some self discipline.. its not easy just set your mind to it. speaking from experience here.

More like just a thing they do on the SCIC to weed out the weak, you dont know **** about it yet you think you do.

I do like that pic in you're profile...... makes you feel real hard being behind that big gun, what are you TA? OTC? Too old for Cadets cant hack the real army?

See I can do it to....

Bit difficult to do a full time degree and be a full time soldier at the same time. TA have the same MATTs as the Regs now anyway though.
I'm guessing SCIC is something like Senior Cadet Instructor Course?

EDIT:Just found out it's cadre, not course, but it was a good guess.

What a disappointment :frown:
I've done this when I was a Sea Cadet hehe. Yeah, scrunch your toes up from time to time, try clenching various muscles discreetly, and rock back onto your heels and forward onto the balls of your feet ever so slightly (i.e. not enough so that your boots actually move).

It comes with practice! However, there was always this one girl, every year, who without fail would manage to faint and fall off the memorial every remembarance sunday. The number of rifles she dented through dropping them was quite impressive.
