porno rocks but i just like the emo guys who kiss

That makes more sense. But that's an awful lot of effort and isn't kind of a personal thing as different people are into different things..

True, I know a guy who's into pizza porn. If you're curious, type it into google image search .

Does nothing for me personally.

Boys in my flat have been very clever...get the boyfriend of the only girl living in the flat to download it for them!

Uni won't allow it and if caught interent temporalily banned as they don't like you downloading anything.

Goes for all unis that control the internet, well it is still illegal (used the word still in hope it will become legal someday, dream on I know).

Most outbound ports are blocked, cant acces anyone of my mmorpg's or internet radio and other peoples internet phones or progs like limewire etc. cant be accesed. What you need is someone not in halls to act as an autoforwarder but that goes against most uni's guidelines :P
i can use limewire in uni and it works..how come it doesn't work for you?

wow....pizza and girls. How could you go wrong with those two :p:

Although i have to admit that's possibly one of the stranger things i've heard about.

All main ports and Volp's are blocked at Aber. Even webcams dont work.

I think they ban porn for a few reasons.

Firstly bandwidth (duh)
Secondly because its hard to tell from the vague monitoring they do between sites which cater for extreme and weird but borderline legal fetishes, and those that overstep the mark. In any case, no uni wants the bad exposure of something like a child porn scandal.

it works this way, pizza guy delivers pizza, there's a hole in the middle of the pizza and its box,and the big sausage goes there.at the end,the girl gets the extra special sauce, which just happens to be...

Heh, i love how all these self confessed computor science law and human rights experts suddenly appear at the thread like this.

Fact is, non of us are at your uni and non of us have read a detailed copy of your accomodation contract. Theres no point asking us if your allowed to do something or not.. go read your damn contract.

It is my guess your contract will refere to a 'terms of use' located on your university website somewhere which will list exactly what you can and cant do using the university connection. As you are renting the university property and using the university internet connection you must adhere to their rules as stated in your conract, so if your contract says 'NO PORN' then guess what... YOU AINT ALLOWED PORN.

Its just that simple!

Human right to look at porn? Awesome! But not true, you do not have a human right to use any internet connection you please to obtain any infomation you please. Im sure your university will 'retain the right to refuse use of computer services for any or no reason' etc etc, which means they have the legal right (legal because its in your contract) to cut off your university internet for any or no reason.

People - Please stop asking dumb questions on the H + R forum for which we have no chance of being able to answer because we dont have knowledge of your contract/relationship/living circumstances.

Not sure about anywhere else but here they log your mac adresses.

The service they provide is meant to be used for academic purposes only.

That's usually not true, particularly if you're paying for it.

Check your terms and conditions, but even if it's disallowed I seriously doubt you'll get in trouble for it, since there's clear privacy and free speech implications. If I found out that people were watching what I was browsing through the Uni's proxy, I'd cause hell.
academic purposes only is for the uni pcs only in the labs and libraries and stuff.check your T&C's.

r u allowed to download porn on ur private laptop in ur halls at uni? i mean they cant restrict ur personal freedom and sexual urges, im talking about legal over 18 porn?

i think most uni halls ban things like ares, kazaa, limewire etc and other downloading p2p network thingies... so i dont think you can get porn from THOSE places. though im not sure about other sources

Privacy implications? No, the uni has the legal right to monitor all internet traffic through their gateway and im sure it will say that in your contract.

Free speech?! As someone has already said on here, you do not have a legal right to view porn so i have no idea where free speec implications came from in this situation.

Well, think of it this way. How embarrased would you be if you had to tell ur mum/dad that you were kicked off the University internet for looking at pizza porn? Would you tell *them* that it was ur legal right to watch it??

Meh... I was not only looking at porn, but regularly downloading 10+ GB on bittorrent a day, and never recieved any sort of warning.

How the hell could you download that much porn every day?!? What size was your hard drive? I doubt I could think of 10GB of stuff to download every day for a week if I included porn, music and movies! That's insane!

Anyway, to the OP: do you have broadband at home? If so, then simply download it all to your computer at home, and keep it saved. That way you avoid the issue altogether.

you beat me to it. you can actually buy autoforwarder services if you know the right people. Ive never known anyone to be caught doing it. word of advice tho, no illegal porn or warez as the person whos computer all this stuff is going through can actually be prosecuted for it rather than you.

LOL! Not 10GB of porn! 10GB altogether, and of course not every day - but quite regularly, say once every couple of weeks. I'd download a season of a TV show overnight - which is usually just over 9GB. Basically what I'm saying is I used a hell of a lot of bandwidth sometimes, and it didn't seem to be monitored (at least, I never recieved any sort of warning).
