Someone I'm close to takes pills for anxiety that are also used as antidepressants...(escitalopram aka cipralex) and he hasn't gained any weight. He does eat plenty. It's just subjective really.

anti depressents do loads of damage memory loss slowly corrupting the whole of your brain and they can be addictive, i would steer clear

My brother is on anti-depressants and since he started he has put a lot of weight on. I believe the chemicals inhibit your ability to recognise when you are full.

But some people have to have them to be able to function.

If I end up in a place where it's anti-depressants or being throughly miserable and depressed and feeling like I want to do something less than sensible, then I'll take the pills. Provided it's properly supervised by the doctor then there shouldn't be a problem.

And not all types of anti-depressant are actually addictive.

My old german teacher was on anti-depressants for a long time. She didn't gain any weight.

yeah i spose i just look at my gran who's been on them since forever and it got her parkinsons, well the doctors won't admit its parkinsons cos then its admitting they were wrong to feed her all those drugs but yeah it pretty much is :frown:

I took citalopram for a while and put weight on, but now I'm taking Paroxetine and that has suppressed my appetite.

BULL****. Quote a source or explain which ones you mean. Alternatively just be quiet.

the effect of Anti-depressants, like all drugs, varies from person to person. Various different types of Anti-depressants carry various different sied-effects.

Some useful information can be found at the site below:

I think his source is probably Tom Cruise, the famous mentalist.

If people need anti-depressants then they should take them, don't warn people off of them unless you have a medical degree. Just because your gran developed Parkinsons doesn't mean that everyone who takes anti-depressants will, there are millions of people in the population that have taken them and i highly doubt they've all got Parkinsons. As for the OP, it is pretty easy to put on loads of weight while on anti-depressants, but as long as you control your diet and stop eating when you know you don't actually need any more food then you should be able to manage it.

Drugs should sometimes be a last resort; have you tried looking at herbal remedies?
