'Previous UCAS number'

Applying to UCAS and when I clicked 'section finished' on my courses section, I was asked for a 'Previous UCAS number (if known)'.

Now, I do have a previous UCAS number as I applied last year, however I didn't make my offer and so was unsuccesful. However I'm applying to the same university for the same course again and am re-doing some modules next summer.

What I'm wondering is if whether I should not put my old UCAS number in as they will have access to my old application and I worry that this could affect the way in which the university look at my application, possibly leading to an outright rejction.

Advice please?

I've spoken to UCAS and LSE about this, and here's what they had to say. It's not necessary for you to declare your previous UCAS app number, but that doesn't stop UCAS from linking your application last year to your new application, which is what they do by matching other details of your app such as your name, date of birth, and so on. UCAS will circulate this information to the universities which you have applied to... so like it or not, they're going to know. Personally I didn't declare my previous app number, but UCAS is going to reveal it anyway, so you might as well save them the effort. Yes, they will have access to your previous application, and no, I very much doubt that they'd give you an immediate rejection. I've been reassured countless times that each application is assessed as a fresh one, relative to other applications in the same batch.

I'll ask this here to save making a new thread...
I'm reapplying after rejecting all my offers last year because I had picked the wrong course. Does anyone know if ucas will send off my old application this year, even if I havn't applied to any of the same unis as last time? Should I write something in my PS if this is the case explaining why I had the change of heart etc?

Cheers.

If you're applying to the same Uni's I'd add it. If for no other reason than the Uni's are likely to have good records and pick it up anyway. If you declare it everyone's happy and they'll consider your new application. If you don't, they'll wonder what you were trying to hide. Honesty is most definitely the best policy!

so leave it off if I'm not applying to any of the same unis?

What if your original UCAS aaplication was quite a while ago, say 10 years for instance (and before it all went computerised too!). Do you think they'd still link it to a fresh application?

The reason I'm asking is that I'm planning to go back to uni as a mature student. I didn't finish my original degree so am not a graduate (had lots of problems which affected me personally and I mucked everything up).

But I'm worried that my long-ago mistakes are going to come back and haunt me.
