staying safe on the streets

Last night (about 10pm) I had a very heavy suitcase I had to lug from the train station to my flat. I had no other choice because my train got in late and left luggage was closed. So anyway, I was trying my best to get this damn thing down the street. A few men asked if they could help but I politely declined. Let's face it, I was female trying to get home late at night. I wasn't taking any chances, and besides I'm very strong anyway so it wasn't a big deal to me. So anyway I carried on down the street and this foreign guy says "let me help you" and I said no thankyou I can manage. He asked where I lived, I told him not far. He then asked again if he could help, and even had the nerve to say "I'm not a rapist you know" before reaching for my bag. I then firmly told him to GET OFF and after that he left me to it.
I couldn't believe it. Why the hell couldn't he just leave me alone? I don't mind friendly people who offer to help but I just didn't like this guy's forward manner, it was a bit unnerving. I managed to get home safely anyway, but sometimes I wonder how easy it would be for another girl to be taken advantage of.

He was up to something, no doubt about it. Thank your lucky stars that you got out of this experience unscraped and with all your stuuf.

Do other people live in your flat?

edit: ffs not every guy is a rapist, maybe he was actually trying to help and couldn't believe that in this country a woman wouldn't need a mans help. Fair enough, you told him to get lost and he did. Now he'll probably never volunteer to help another woman again.

Possibley foreign guy so maybe things are different in his country?

I dont see how you can say 'he had the nerve to say he wasnt a rapist'... Ive half felt like saying that sometimes when trying to help people. It's frustrating.

I understand why you did what you did, and I would prob have done the same- but just nb that he's foreign- I work with 2 Italians, an albanian and a russion- they're odd, each in a different way with different senses of humour and different views of what's right- don't worry too much at least you're ok

Maybe the moral of the story is don't reject every guy because the last offer you'll get is from a scary foreigner

It didn't bother me that he was foreign, at least he was sober unlike most people that tried to help. At the end of the day you can't be too careful, there are too many weirdos going about my part of town. I could have said yes and got home easier, but didn't fancy the idea of a strange man knowing where I live.

Well he could have just followed you home if he really cared about where you lived.
