# Is there a formula for this? watch

1. Its to do with Binomial expnsion.

Say there is an equation of the form:

(ax^n +bx^m)^r

is there a formula that will allow me to work out a term to a particular power?

Thanks
2. The Binomial theorem should work (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_theorem)
3. I have a really stupid question which I've forgotten how do it, but here goes:

y=x^3
If x=-2 will y= -8 or 8?

Also:

y= -x^2
If x = 2 will y = 4 or -4?

Thanks
4. y=x^3
If x=-2 will y= -8 or 8?
y = (-2)*(-2)*(-2) = (4)*(-2) = -8

y= -x^2
If x = 2 will y = 4 or -4?
y = -(2*2) = -4
5. (Original post by hungry_hog)
y = (-2)*(-2)*(-2) = (4)*(-2) = -8

y = -(2*2) = -4
Cheers Mr Hungry Hog
