Feamle Students; Can you help?

I am a research student form the Psychology Department at University of Central Lancashire, (UK) and I urgently need female UK students to take part in my research, (over 18’s only). My research is an online survgey investigating the risk behaviour of female students with the aim of improving safer sexual behaviour.

If you would like more information about my research and to find out how to take part, please visit

www.helenclements.co.uk/survey/home.do

Your help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Helen Clements

I'm no expert on the subject by any stretch, but as far as i'm aware if you want to do discriminate recruitment you need to go through a load of red tape, re. the sex discrimination act.

Asking for "females only" is discriminate.

Can I point out that you are limiting yourself to a ridiculously small sample here - TSR is representitive of maybe a strata of 5% of students - acedemiclly. I fail to see how this data is doing to be valid. Maybe I should compleate one just to skew the data more?

Wangers

As a side note - are you accredited my anyone?? is the reserch proposal validated by BPS ethics?? Which supervisor let you carry this out?? ya gotta be kidding me!

done.

56. If they refused to use a condom, how effectively do you think you could negotiate a safer sexual alternative with them, (e.g. mutual masturbation)?

Very effectively
Somewhat effectively
Neither effectively no ineffectively
Somewhat ineffectively
Very ineffectively

wheres the "dump them for being a total loser" button?

seems to follow the BPS guidelines from what I can see on her site....It'd be interesting to see why a supervisor allowed this sort of representation though

I'll do the essay. To hell with red tape and "certificates of exemption" if it helps you with your studies, then thats all that matters.

The rest of you should go boil your heads.

Have you researched the ethicality of this statement? It could get you in hot water otherwise...

Thanks to those of you who took taken the time to complete the survey.

I realsie that the population is somewhat limited, but this survey is part of a larger piece of research that will involve the implementation of a population-specific intervention to improve the sexual helath of female students, (an identified risk group). Research suggests that interventions are most effective if they are targeted to a specific population, hence, only female students are required for my research. The generalisability of my results would, of course, need to be assessed separately.

My research has been apporved my the ethics committee at the University of Central Lancashire. I currently have a BSc and MSc Psychology and am currently undertaking my PhD.

Thanks again for your help

Yay. That was a good 15 minute distraction from doing the essay I was supposed to be concentrating on... XD

I have more important things to worry about than the "ethicality" of my statements.

You can discriminate if you have good cause, and if you mention it in the advert, which she has. Then you are abiding by the discrimination act. It's like if you go for a job, as long as they mention that they are looking for specific ethnicities/genders in the advert than they are allowed to not give you a job based on the stated characteristics.

Nooooo they aren't, and several police authorities have just been sued for it. For a job, you need a specific valid reason why you're hiring that gender, and it needs to be properly declared etc.

Yeah, that's how it works with psychological experiments.

Is posting on TSR important?
