    Yep, in Unit 1
I need some help on it.
Question: If an excess of methane is used CH3Cl is the major product. Suggest why by reference to the steps in the mechanism.

I am thinking it has something to do with the fact if there is an excess of methane the chlorine radical is more likely to collide with it so makes CH3Cl?

    EDIT - I think you're right actually.

When drawing the structural formula of tetrachloromethane, would you write:

CClClClCl or CCl4 (yet CCl4 is the molecular formula...)

Similarly, which one is correct out of ClBrCH, CHBrCl or BrCHCl? (I'm wondering if this matters at all)
In the case of tetrachloromethane, you'd write CCl4 not CClClClCl. I can't really explain it well but you need to look at what surrounds each carbon atom though

I believe CHBrCl would be accurate.

Right can someone help me out. Fairly simple but I can't remember how it is done.

Let's say you have 1-chloropropane the molecular formula or whatever it is called is
    CH3CH2CH2Cl

How do you write it for 2-chloropropane?

    Is it CH3CHClCH2
    CH3CHClCH3

    Finally, one more question:

Would you put a functional group before a side-chain with this example:

    E.g: CBr(CH3) or C(CH3)Br
I think its best write C(CH3)Br.

In the case of CH3CH2C(CH3)Br, you'll see that the side-chain comes before the functional group

Hi everyone! could someone please help me ... In energetics when working out the enthalpy of neutralisation, how do you work it out when the concentrations for the acid and alkali are different? Thanks I'd appreciate any help
Just asking, what Unit and exam board are you talking about?

I've only covered Edexcel Unit 1 and haven't been asked any kind of question like that before
