Fair enough. I've mostly just heard of people who, though they might start learning the GCSE material from year 9 or 10 onwards, will actually sit all the exams at the end of year 11 and get their results the following August in one go.

The very few exceptions have been people who were naturally gifted at Maths and got the GCSE out of the way by age 11 or something like that. I didn't know this was common for other subjects as well.
Nah I did my French GCSE in one year, in year 9. Got an A, 2 marks off of an A*. Was put in a Foundation class too, so everyone was aiming for a C - had to self-teach all the higher content to convince my teachers to enter me for the Higher paper.

My first official A* was in RE and I didn't revise for it very much.
    What was your first A*?

    100% A* in French in year 9.
It was particularly easy as I lived there for 18 months when I was 7.

I got a B in my IGCSE maths mock and my maths teacher said to my parents "I doubt she'll be able to get an A, she'll be lucky if she does"
We did our exam in November of 2010 and got the result in March- A*, with both papers over 90%. The walk home from school that day was one of the happiest walks of my life. TAKE THAT, DOUBTFUL AND UNSUPPORTIVE MATHS TEACHER
Similar situation here but with German

Be proud of that A*! Don't minimilise it! People who have family in France and go there for holidays frequently since childhood can't speak the language well, only hitting B's for GCSE. An A* in any language is an achievement, be proud!

German A* in Year 9 (tho seeing as I lived in Germany for 8 years before moving to Malaysia I did have an unfair advantage). After that it was English Language or French I think
