We used to get loads of letters saying that they would catch us etc but we simply ignored them. They just want to make money out of students and tbf they cant prove we were watching live tv unless they caught us there and then (I might be wrong).

I used iplayer alot to watch live stuff, including f1 races on sunday and tv shows.

So you've actually asked 2 questions:

    - Do you need a licence
    - How likely are you to get caught

    1. Whether you need a licence depends on your tenancy agreement. If you are in uni halls it is likely to be a separate or HMO tenancy in which case you will need a licence for a Tv in your own room.

    2. How likely you are to be caught entirely depends on how you do it and whether you allow an inspector in to check your room.

Officially: Yes you need a TV license

Unofficially: I've yet to see an inspector in my 4 terms in halls.

My old halls of residence simply binned all the letters at the gates along with takeaway fliers. That shows how much stock those letters have.

    Merry Xmas.

I imagine it's very easy to get away with not having a licence in halls, you could probably risk it.
