Sleeping through lectures

I'm not particularly worried about this as I know that I'll receive letters if it becomes serious, but how much is the uni willing to put up with this? I'm not talking about sleeping in the lectures but rather just not turning up to them because I'm in bed. I got in at about 4 this morning, had a shower and went to bed. I woke up at various times, but didn't actually get up till about 4.30 this afternoon. It means I missed all my lectures today. I've slept in late twice so far but with the result that I only missed the first lecture at 9.

Most lectures (in my experience) don't record attendence unless it's a small class; they'll never know, but neither will you.

if the lectures do have registers just ask a mate to sign it for you
all my lectures have registers.

the classics dept. have registers and have now made a fuss about ticking just your name off and say you have to sign :frown: but i can miss my history elective lecture :p: lol

Shouldn't you have a register where you must sign it? Signatures means you can't sign it for your friends...

Reply 6

We don't have registers for lectures, but we do have registers for our tutorials.

Reply 7

We have one or two registers, not many, and no one looks at the signatures.

Reply 8

why cant anyone else sign a signature for you?

when i've written cheques the bank hasnt been strict with exact signatures so i doubt uni will have a system to check your signature

At the end of the day attendance is for your own good. More often that not, lecturers and hence the university dont actually care if you don't attend. However, in many modules if you fail, they may only allow you one resit if they believe your attendance was not satisfactory and you havent made a serious attempt.

I sleep in quite a bit and no one has ever said anything to me.

However, there's little point just getting people to sign you in if you aren't going to make an effort to pass. Also it is annoying for other students who have to sit there watching while people go through pages of the register looking for people's names!

And I doubt that they actually would check your signature - we're not children who need to be forced to go to a lecture and get 'told off' for not going.

All my classes do registers/attendance or whatever... and we have to sign, but cos we're just passing it about iv never done my real signature.. i figure when theres like 100 of you they wont go through each individually to check if its real..surely they dont give that much of a damn!
But yeah iv been ill alot this week, and if u really want to do well you should go to the lectures otherwise you soon get behind.
Be good little students... :-P!

at the first lectures in the first 2 weeks i had to sign the attendance sheet, but now most of my lectures don't have the attendance sheet to sign

1hundredreasons

Well they never flick through the register in my lectures. They just hand it out, let it get passed round, and collect it when it's done. They never hold up the lectures for the sake of a register.

EDIT:Oh I see what you meant, you meant the students flicking through the register looking for peoples names. Well no students seem to care in our lectures either, they don't seem to realise the register's been handed out until someone shoves it in their face.

no but when the lectures so boring that the prospect of signing your name on a register seems exciting, its annoying having to wait a long time for it lol...

Does anyone know the OFFICIAL procedure that the uni has for missing lectures?
Isnt it if you miss 3 lectures of one module u get a letter home or something?
Please enlighten me for I am in darkness

that's more like tutorials/seminars etc.. lectures - no1 gives a crap, as long as someones there the lecturer will do their job, they take it as it's on the students head.. the tutorials and seminars however are a much smaller group..

Whenever I skip a lecture I just text a mate and get them to sign me as being in
