    I'm planning to buy a macbook for uni, but i'm unsure about which to buy the air or pro. I plan to use it for internet, music and photos, micro office, photoshop, of which I thought the macbook air would be useful for it's lightness which is important to me and my casual use, of which it'll be 256GB Memory and 8GB RAM, because this will be my main computer and I want to future-proof it and i heard photoshop requires a lot of ram. However, if photoshop requires a lot of ram is better getting a macbook pro (non-retina) not really bothered about the display, so which is more suited for my needs, MACBOOK AIR (256BGB, 8GB RAM) or MACBOOK PRO( NON - RETINA)

    The macbook air is probably too slow for photoshop.

    There is almost no reason at all to buy the non-retina macbook pro anymore. There are some pretty big upgrades between the retina and non-retina macbook pros, not just the display so I suggest you do a bit of research into that, especially if you want the machine to be future proof.

    If you are going non-retina then definitely the Air

    The non-retina pro is very outdated now for such an expensive laptop, it certainly isn't future proof, as far as future proofing laptops go. Windows laptops for under £400 can beat it in performance now! And as mentioned above, the Airs aren't particularly well suited for intensive tasks like Photoshop with their low power processors.

    So yeah, I would say;
    A) try and save extra, get an entry level MacBook Pro with Retina and the 8GB RAM upgrade if you're serious about Photoshop. Have you taken Apple's student discount (roughly 14% off across the board for uni students) into account?
    B) if saving more is out of the question and you're serious about Photoshop, look into the many more powerful Windows options available at this price point.
    C) if saving more is not an option and you are absolutely set on a Mac, get whichever Air you can afford with 8GB of RAM, and maybe even the i7 if you're set on using Photoshop regularly.

    Based on everything...........the Air, the only issue is the lack of storage. Other than that it has more than enough........you forget to take into account the SSD which gives a huge performance boost.
