Hey, sorry to see you haven't had any replies to your thread yet. Are you sure you’ve posted in the right place? Posting in the specific university or course forum should help get more responses.

If you haven’t already found it, then university connect is a really useful way for finding people at your course/university! You can also find a list of applicant threads and courses here. It's worth checking out if you have questions.

If you need advice on your academic work, then the Study Help section will be able to help you. Hope this helps!

If you're looking for a busy Halls, then any of the three larger Halls complexes (Glen Eyre, Montefiore, Archers Road) are ideal.

While I was studying there Monte was the biggest Halls complex in Europe with a cpacity of around 2,000 students - they all have their relative merits though. Glen Eyre (where I stayed) is the closest to the campus, but furthest from any shopping/nights out.

Mayflower, Monte/Connaught (Wessex Lane) or Glen Eyre certainly are the most busiest and have the most going on. I currently live in Mayflower and although not all facilities are finished yet (they will be for next uni year though!) it's great during freshers, with a lively atmosphere and lost of people about. It's also particularly good as it is in the city centre and is only a short walk to the night clubs. Ive visted Wessex Lane halls (Monte and Connaught) for nights out and they are very big and lively too, but the trade off is that it's a fair journey to get the city. It is generally quieter (in terms of traffic/noise polution) around Wessex Lane, with more green spaces (there's none @ Mayflower) which is probably advantage.

    Hope this could help you

Do halls get given to you at random or do you put your choices down and the reason why?

 mayflower is LITERALLY over the road from one of the MANY city centre parks link. There's shedloads of green space in the city centre (http://www.discoversouthampton.co.uk...e.original.pdf ) and if you go in the other direction it's less than 15 minutes walk to the common?

You get to put between 3-5 choices down in order of preference and they will give you one based upon that. Typically people get their 1st or 2nd choice. Either way, you will really enjoy wherever you end up!

    http://virtualopenday.southampton.ac...ad/small-halls

If this works there is a virtual tour of Highfield halls and some of the rooms - Aubrey is non-ensuite rooms and Wolfe is ensuite rooms (I believe) and they are catered halls only. Prices can also be found on the accommodation website any more questions do ask as my boyfriend lives there and I'm a student ambassador specialising in accommodation so I have all the info you need!

So City Gateway is this massive orange tower on the other side of Monte and Connaught halls, you can probably find it on google maps if you use the postcode SO18 2NU (Monte) and scroll over
It was completed in August 2014 but will not be open until this September so you will be the first cohort to stay in it - I believe its mostly aimed at families as it has 1 and 2 bed contained flats and studio flats but it does have ensuite rooms as well!
it has a morrisons and a pharmacy below it; theyve just put in a subway and theres another empty shop so something may be there soon
its also right down the road from a 24hr McDonalds and on the U6 bus route

Highfield halls is the closest halls to campus but it is catered and mostly humanities students stay there as it is right next to Avenue campus
I would say have a look at Glen Eyre, Wessex Lane and Archers Road if you want to be close to campus, with Glen being within walking distance, and Wessex and Archers on very regular bus routes

Hey I also picked Southampton as my firm and am in the process of applying for accommodation. I really liked the look of Glen Eyre and on the Southampton site it says I can pick between 2 categories, do you know the difference between them?
