I'm a vietnamese student. I'll gradute in Jun,2007. I'm so confuse to choose a right university for a master course. My major faculty is Internation politics and Diplomacy. I've searched some schools in London, for example City, Brunel, Westminter, Middlesex, SOAS ( can't dream abt), Royall holloway...etc.. where have a related course... etc. But there's a problem that My average point of all subject is just about 60-70%. I'm not sure if I can get in or not. Could you please help me to find a university in London?
My university is one of the best one in my country, and my average point of relevant subject is above 70%. Any chance for me... hixhix. Plz, help ! Thanks a lot !

Hi Ivy,
In order to compare University courses and the teaching quality within these Uni's I suggest you visit http://www.tqi.ac.uk
The Teaching Quality Information (TQI) website brings together key sources of official information about the quality of higher education in UK universities and colleges. The TQI website is intended to help you compare institutions and subjects, and make a more informed choice of where to study.

You will then be able to see which institution offers the best course for you

What areas of international politics are you interested in studying? I do believe the university of bradford has an internationally recognised department for peace and conflict studies.

Thanks all. Yeah, I want to stay in London.
Any particular reason? You are ignoring a lot of very good universities by doing so and considering some very poor ones in London. If you want to make it in IR then you had better go to a good university. I understand if you have personal reasons for staying in London, but many foreign students come on here and ask about courses solely at London-based institutions many of which are much worse than the institutions they could attend if they widened their search a little.

it has a lot to do with personal reasons as well as reputational ones. I take most international students will be returning home after their studies, it's therefore important to choose to study in somewhere at least being heard of, both location wise and university wise. Plus most want to experience living in the capital and it's a great opportunity for them to do so.

I have heard of the master in diplomatic studies of Westminster. It should not be too difficult to get into SOAS, but I am not sure. They always want Asian students because diversity can boost the learning experience and atmosphere.

You must remember that some of these places you have listed are not part of the Universty of London though. I should think that in IR and politics people will be more likely to have heard of the top places specialising in the study of those areas even if they are outside of the capital (they are much more likely to have heard of them than City or Westminster which many people in this country aren't even aware of).

Op - I think you should seriously consider other courses - being Asian I know some people would like to say they studied in London blah blah. BUT they dont understand the courses, the differences between the courses. It would be stupid basing a coure decision on a inaccurate estimation of the Universities' supposed standing - when there are courses at other institutions thet have MUCH better indevidual departments. True Bradford may not be as well known as UoL internationally but its Peace Studies course IS internationally renowned - at least to those in a position to judge - its those people that matter - not family and friends with a skewered perception. Make the right decision for yourself - its your course.

good luck

Ps -- I agree with the above post - I have lived here for a number of years and I know that the Bradford course is widely accepted as a leader in the field - compared to it the City of Westminster - ( which may be good) pales in significance in terms of world standing.
