# FP1 - Second Order Differential Questions watch

1. Hi,

I'm stuck on solving this differential equation, and would really appreciate some help:

d²y/dx² - 3dy/dx = 5

Thank you very much!
2. Post your working so far.
3. Well, I haven't got very far as I'm not sure how to solve the auxiliary equation: m²-3m-5=0, as it looks as though it gives a messy answer but from the solution it looks as though it shouldn't be messy.
4. The auxiliary equation is m2 - 3m = 0
The constant term in an auxiliary equation comes from a 'y' term in the original differential equation, not a constant or an x term or anything.
5. whoops, i just spotted my mistake, I think I can do it now
