For the essay I would recommend writing as much as you can. Read the paper, find a current issue and write what you think about it. I'm more concerned about the critical reading part.

Im giving it too - I've just been wondering though, hope you guys can help me out - there are two general papers right? 8001 and 8004. If I give only one of them does that only count as an AS Level? Do I have to give both of them to make an A Level?
Because someone was telling me that giving 8004 is apparently an A Level but I'm not so sure...

ZKhn, I did 8004-it was purely essay based, 2 essays within the set duration of 2 hours. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe Thinking Skills and General Paper is only available at AS-Level. It's relatively easy to obtain a good grade, just write coherently about the topic of your choice.

If you're planning to apply to a university in the UK, do take note that many do not recognize General Paper as a "fourth" AS qualification/a subject by itself. It is useful, however, as an alternative to the IELTS for other foreign unis. Hope this helps.
