# C1 question watch

1. Find the exact area of triangle PQR P(-1,2) Q(11,8) R(10,0)
I have drawn a diagram, and I know how to find out the distance using the formula, however I always stumble on what sides I should use (which side is the base and what side is the height)?

Does anyone have any tips on that, because I always end up plugging in the wrong numbers into the area equation at the end!

Thank you

2. longest side is usually the base
3. You need to work out the distance of each line and you can work out the area of the triangle

Can you post the whole question? I have a feeling that information is given in the question which tells you which of the sides are perpendicular. If not, you will need to show this yourself.

If you have two perpendicular sides in a triangle then you can choose either one to be the base and the other to be the height.

That's maybe true when you first learn about the area formula pre-GCSE but you can't assume it at A Level.
