Buy now or wait for uni?

I'm currently on a 1 year access course, and had offers for uni in September. ...

I have ocd and will not touch any of the computers in the college... eww not a chance....

Only one other person on my course brings their own laptop in

I know I will need a laptop for uni, but can't decide if I should buy now or wait for uni?

I would buy on buy now pay later for a rMBP 13, and pay off in full when I get maintenance grant and loan through. ...

It would be nice to have all my college notes typed up instead of hand written all the time... my handwriting is awful ... and would do my credit rating good...

What do you think, but now or wait til August time?

Why do you need an MBP? Especially if you're putting on the never never.

Because I want something solid and sturdy (metal frame), not made of plastic and something that is gonna last me right til the end of uni without slowing right down.... Every PC I have owned has been slow as he'll pretty darn quick and my couple year old mac mini is as quick as the day I purchased it...

I know you can get metal windows laptops, but only on the higher priced ones, and if I'm spending that kinda money I'd rather get a mac
I'm holding off until Uni before buying a laptop.

Tech evolves fast, and next year, we'll be able to get even better laptops.

Knowing Apple, they'll release a new line of MBP's in March time, so just wait it out.
Have a look around - there are some very good value laptops/ netbooks around (and netbooks are more convenient if you're going to be taking it to lectures/ the library frequently). Also, you don't really want/ need expensive equipment at uni, unless you're doing a specialised computer/ graphic design/ similar course? Just for typing up notes you should be able to get away with a budget priced laptop/ netbook (also, if you don't mind scratches and dodgy batteries, have a look on eBay at second hand/ refurbished ones).

If you are buying a laptop new, some sellers offer educational discounts - so make the most of these  Also, if your OCD makes you eligible for additional support ask your uni for help - some are able to offer you money towards a laptop if it is required for your studies  If you know you'll be able to get this support once you're at uni then it may be best to wait and buy it then - usually they won't offer you money towards something you've already purchased.

I've always found hand-writing my notes to be a much better way of learning than typing them, but if you feel that having a laptop now to help you with your notes would benefit your studies then it could be worth getting one - it may cost you more if you can't get the discount/ uni support, but getting better grades would probably be more worthwhile in the long run...
Might you get support from DSA? I would wait until you know whether you will and then buy one in the summer.
Not to mention student discount when you get to university.
Also new Air next year will apparently be 12", retina, fanless and lighter.
