It's easy really, a Hobgoblin will only gobble hobs, whereas a Goblin will gobble anything. Right ?
faerie's, pixies elves and hobbits are much cuter than golins and hoblins or whatever.
And that is the important thing.
A hobgoblin is merely a type of goblin - originally a friendly or at least harmless species, as opposed to some of their more wicked cousins. They are indeed also smaller.
