How do you know when to just stay friends

Judging his family on a single meeting? Really? It can take time to get to know people and for them to come out of their shells. My parents and my boyfriend did not get on AT ALL to start with, but 3 years on he's part of the family and we all laugh about all the tension etc they used to have. Plus like it or not, his family are part of the reason he is how he is. If you like him, you do in a sense owe a debt of thanks to them too as a part of who he is.

I also don't really see why you're surprised/annoyed at him not making a move given you asked him to take it slow? He's doing EXACTLY what you asked. Telling him to do something then being annoyed he listens to you is pretty bizarre.
