Breakthrough bleeding?

Uhm I'm currently running two packs of Microgynon 30 together(one straight after the other), and I'm up to the last 7 days left on the second pack, then I'm going to have my pill free break. I've had intercourse with my boyfriend during taking the two packs, but I haven't missed any pills or vomited or anything so the pill should be working etc.

Today I noticed that I'd been bleeding slightly, and I got a bit worried, is this just because I ran two packs together and haven't had a break? I've been on the pill two years and never ran two packs together until now..

I looked in the leaflet that came with the pill but there's nothing really about it in there!

Thanks if anyone can help!

I often get a little bleed towards the end of the second pack if I've run two together. I used not to, but now I've been on the pill for a while I tend to.

To be honest, it's if you don't bleed that you should worry, not if you do. Just use a condom until you've started the next pack so that you don't worry.

Yeah it isn't anything to worry about really. Some people find that they get break through bleeding all the time when they are on the pill. Like Pippak said though, use condoms to put your mind at rest.

I've been on the pill for over 5 years and have taken two packs together and have never bled towards the end, in the middle or at all when taking the pill in this way, so please be careful in what you're saying. All our bodies are different and a simple phone call to your GP will really put your mind at rest as well as using condoms.

I won't need to bother with the extra protection since my boyfriend is back at uni now and I won't see him for a while.

I checked the FPA website and it says it's nothing to worry about, but then someone said that it could be implantation bleeding and scared me. Argh!

I used to be on Microgynon 30, and sometimes got breakthrough bleading as you say, at the end of a second pack. I also got it in the middle of the second pack, if I wasn't extra careful about taking at the same time every day. I also found that the period after the second pack was heavier than usual.

what's implantation bleeding? and breakthrough bleeding is nothing to worry about. if you read the packet, i think you'll find it even says that if you take two packs together, "you may experience some bleeding on pill-taking days." if you think about it, it's not exactly surprising that after two months of build up, the lining of your uterus might not manage to stay as intact as usual. no stressy.

I get that quite often, but i've always been really bad at taking the pill! im not a week and a half into my second pack and am very proud that i've not missed any and have taken them all at roughly the same time every day  a major achievement for me.

just a shame that it doesnt matter as i'm not gettin any haha

Someone told me that implantation bleeding was when a fertilised egg "implants" itself into your womb, causing light bleeding or spotting. I guess you're right about the build-up thing since I've never really ran two packs together before.

The bleeding has been slightly heavier today, and I have 3 pills left on the second pack, but I guess it wouldn't really get lighter, would it?

No theres nothing wrong with you. Different pill work differently. When i was on dianette which is a high dose pill i could run 3 packs together and not get any spotting at all..since ive beeen on a lower dose pill. mercillon i get a bit of spotting doubling up on 2 packs. Everyone's bodies and the way they respond to pills are different so really there cant be much generalisation. Some people spot, some dont.

We're all slightly different. I run three packs together because it helps with my PMT moods swings (which are horrific, heaven help anyone around me for those 5 days...) and when I first started doing it I experienced some breakthrough bleeding. I went to the Dr's first, and they explained that it was likely until my body got used to it.

As you're only combining packs infrequently your body wont be used to it, and breakthrough bleeding is more likely to occur. If you're seriously worried, then a trip to the Doctors might be worth while, if only to put your mind at rest.
