Well i really hate both these modules especially biochem. I should think we will get a lattice enthalpy, and several questions about enzymes and carbohydrates, sice thats about the extent of the biochem syllabus.

biochem is so easy its hard! all those little R groups etc its just so long

It doesn't help that I hate biology. Its too much fact - I think thats the problem. I do chem, maths and phys, which are all logical subjects, but biochem is not logic, its just name and fact learning and I hate it!!!

yeah, i agree. I think we might get something on energy storage comparisons for the biochemistry.

I'm doing transition elements, which I hope won't be that bad. I guess biochemistry isn't too bad if you're doing biology and chemistry, is it? Also hope that trends and patterns is straightforward.
Good luck everyone.
p.s. Are the 2 chemistry exams most people's last exams? For those who still have more exams, sorry, and hope they go well.

well ders a reason y i dropped biology, n i dnt c how its fair we r made 2 do this module to help the bio students, wot bout the non bio students!!!! we r left clueless..! hope they go easy on me ! i cnt afford 2 mess dis exam up as i didnt find the last 2 very straightfwd

I know - we have a class of 11 and 3 of us don't do Biology!!! How unfair? Death to Biology Students.

Can i just say - its not the biology students who decide that they're going to do biochem - its the schools decision in our case - we didnt get a choice in biology or physics either even though it was advertised, so to speak, b4 we decided which a-levels to take that we could choose which option module to take. Its basically the schools saving money so that they dont have to buy a new set of books every year. Also if the majority of ur chem class also do bio and it was put to the class to vote which option to take dont u think ud still be doing biochem - its a majority thing. if u really didnt want to do biochem you could have entered urself for another option exam - someone did at our school for phys. Plus biochem isnt really that hard so chill and dont be so melodrammatic!!!

But I really do hate biochemistry. We were told we could do a class vote on the option, and, surprise surprise all the biologists wanted to do biochem (because they had already covered most of it in their biology AS), and we were told we had to do another module as self study if we didn't want to do biochem. Which isn't very helpful when you don't really know what you need to know in detail. Three members of my physics class have decided to do telecomms instead of Cosmology (again we didn't get the choice but the teachers can only teach cosmologycos they are useless) and they have hardy done anything. So they ain't gonna pass.

And just to give you an idea of how bad I am at Biology - I did seperate science GCSE's, got A* Chemistry, A Physics and a C in Biology. Thats why biochem is so bad for me.

guys in previous years, trends and patterns has been very easy. this year no way. I think we will get it tough.

The big will be on construction of redox reactions, with some synopic element to it. like potassium dichromate. uses of etc, equations, formulae. and also working out titration calculations.

there will be something on lattice energy, maybe a construction but will not be that straightforward. Nb 2:1 ratio of moles.

the idea of polarised anion is common so to is exothermic extent of lattice energy.

There will be reactions of period 3, might combine aluminium with something. learn all reaction condidtions and effects for period 3.

Maybe a grid, fill in structure etc.

I also do methods of anaysis and detection. not to bad.

just describe DNA as a macromolecule and RNA as being smaller. it can also have up to 240kilobases. At least, thats what the txt bk says!!

I agree. But I always knew it would be that way round. Although I wouldn't say trends and patterns was really easy...but it was a bit better than waht I had expected. It had so much foundation stuff on it - bond angles, structure and bonding...it felt a bit more like a synoptic paper!!!
