You have to declare it so you can pay tax on it. Otherwise it would be considered tax avoidance.
No, no, a common misconception put about by both HMRC and the government.

Tax avoidance is legal. It is also the duty of a director or a limited company or a plc. It is also sensible financial management. Tax avoidance is arranging your affairs to minimise your tax burden.

Tax evasion is illegal. It is failure to declare all the tax you should pay. Doing taxable work and not declaring it is tax evasion.

Someone doing < £10k of work in a year and not declaring it - such that it is less than the tax threshold - doesn't feel like a huge issue.

Taking £200k in cash for building a house and not declaring it - criminal black market activity.

A lot of builders still pay their labourers and certain tradesmen cash in hand. However even that is on the way out nowadays. Also small market stalls will pay you cash in hand. Handing out flyers and menus for take-aways, although a lot now use companies to do that. But remember it is your responsibility to register as self-employed declare your earnings to the tax man.

All the penalties for non-payment of income tax are multiples of how much unpaid tax there is:

That suggests that if you earn less than the tax threshold there's little point telling them about it.

To find cash jobs:
- check the little ads in newsagent windows;
- check the job ads in the local paper;
- ask in local shops;
- ask in local businesses;
- ask in local pubs, bars and restaurants;
- keep an eye out for any new businesses opening up and go in there and ask if there is any work going.

False.

It is in the Companies Act.

Whether it is moral for a multi-billion multi-national to pay no tax is another matter. I think not.

(If our tax laws were simplified maybe these loopholes could be prevented.)

But it is legal and it is the responsibility of business managers to minimise cost and maximise profit. If they can do that by legally not paying unnecessary tax then that is their duty.
I work in a small shop and I get cash in hand at the end of every day. Go for a family run business or something similar.

2006.

This might take some time since...
The Companies Act 2006 had the distinction of being the longest in British Parliamentary history: with 1,300 sections and covering nearly 700 pages, and containing 16 schedules (the list of contents is 59 pages long)
This one:
Section 172. Duty to promote the success of the company.
(1) A director of a company must act in the way he considers, in good faith, would be most likely to promote the success of the company for the benefit of its members as a whole
For a large multinational, making the shareholders happy by maximising profits is a principal measure of success.

Do you best to avoid paying those b@stards tax, just don't clam anything either! All they will do is line their pockets with it, and pay either immigrants or benifit scroungers it! I used to be a straight up honest person till th HMRC completely fu#ked me over for something that wasn't my fault, even when I tried to find it they didn't care, I lost everything, my house, business, car, everything. Thing is I was paying stupid amounts of tax both business and personal that where crippling me. I'm sick to death of this socialist sh#t hole we live in.

You can get some cash in hand jobs builders need help, if you can handle your self maybe the doors. Just avoid putting it in your bank and avoid giving it to he HMRC scum who don't care who's life they ruin!
