Uh yeah, its called Fresher's Flu. Every uni gets it. It just because so many people from all over the place are thrown together in such close proximity that illness spreads so fast. Seriously EVERY uni has it!!! Except Portsmouth so i hear, which is just bizarre!! They must be super healthy

Nah man, it's a virus. You're all gonna die!

Reply 3

I have it :frown: But only since yesterday. I managed to get away with it for the first three weeks.

*sniff*

It's because so many people from different parts of the country are put together. So the cold virus' in Bath, I will be immune from. The cold virus from Norfolk (which my next door neighbour has got) I am not immune to. It sucks.

is it really 'flu'?

i have a really bad cold, like most people, and everyone keeps on saying, "Oh you've got Fresher's flu". Just because i cough and lost my voice and go through many tissues.

But seriously, isn't it just a cold? Aren't people overreacting? Very few people have more than a bad case of the sniffles, i'm sure of it.

No it's not flu. Tis just a cold (or a cough). But Fresher's Flu sounds better than Fresher's cold. I think its the alliteration :P

Fresher's Flu...happens each year.
You'll probably catch something from someone, given there are a thousand people around you.
With colder weather coming in, there might be a rise in flus/colds.
My flat/course mate has the cold now I think...he better not give it to me.

It's not a cold, it's much worse than a cold I'm not sneezing, it's my troat that is the mine problem...I think it's a random virus, not just a cold, it's not the flu. And talking of the flu...the flu keeps you bed bowned meaning you can't get out of bed. Most people say they have the flu when in fact they just have a cold, a violent one yes but still a cold not the flu. I know this as I've spoken to too many nurses and doctors every time I get my flu jab...which everyone should have every year, I do and I hate needles.

Edit: just noticed people saying the same thing, and they are right to question if it is the flu or just a cold...it is bound to be just a cold if you can still walk and move without feeling too tired to!

Grr *cough, choke* Don't be mean *sneezes*

lots of alcohol lowers ur immune system also, so combined with lots of ppl being thrown together from all over the country its hihgly likely youll get ill

also youll probs find once you get better, cos ppl r ill at diff times, youll catch something else v soon after when ur all vulnerable grrrrr

Reply 16

I have a horrible cough and a wheezy chest. Grr.

Reply 17

i thought i had it, and i just saw the nurse after weeks of it, and she said she thinks i have glandular fever which is far more sucky!

Reply 18

Also its lots of alcohol, going down the union, dancing getting really hot, walking outside into some pretty fresh/cold weather so you go from being super hot to super cold very quickly.

Combined with this you get everyone bringing their own strain of the cold virus that all combine together to create one killer cold virus, the worst cold you ever had!

I have had freshers flu for about 5 weeks now, since i got back...i think i have flu now actually as getting out of bed is a challenge and i am exhausted after writing this! I think i am just going to have to resort to watching more Father Ted!!

We got it here too, just not as bad as some other Uni's. Must be the sea air!
