Timescales (Filter Interview -> Place @ OASC)

Hey everyone! This is my first post here so I'll say Hey first..."Hey!"

I had my filter interview over three weeks ago and I still havn't heard anything from Cranwell as yet to say whether I've been offered a place at OASC. Does anyone know whether it's normal for it to take this long?

When I've spoke to AFCO on the phone they don't seem to know how long it will take for Cranwell to get back to me either. Hopefully they might tell me at my debrief interview  I've got my Debrief interview at my local AFCO this week.

Anyways, I'm really anxious to find out whether I'm successful or not.

Take care everyone.

David

Yes it is perfectly normal. Hurry up and wait as the saying goes!

The time will vary depending on many factors, the RAF themselves, what trades you are applying for, the weather, whether you are going for sponsorship or not, the time of year, etc, etc! Personally, after my filter interview last November i recieved a letter telling me that they had recieved my application and that it was being considered roughly about 3 weeks later. However, i didnt hear anything after that until March when i got a letter inviting me to OASC in June! However, that was just me, ive heard of people getting processed in just a few months and like i said it depends on so many variables, but dont hold your breath, thats all im saying!Hopefully it wont take as long for yourself!

I had my P2 in November but my filter interview had to wait until I'd got some medical stuff sorted, so that wasn't until March. I was then recommended to OASC, but my references were being slack gits, so it took ages to get called forward (August). With hindsight the timings all worked out well for me, and had I been called forward earlier I'm not sure if I'd have been as competitive as I was. However at the time it seemed to be grinding along sooooo slowly it was untrue. Patience is certainly a virtue where the forces are concerned.

Hey there,

It took 5-6 weeks till I got a reply from Cranwell. I phoned on the 5th week and found out the reason it took so long was because they were awaiting one of my referees to reply.

I wouldn't worry the RAF don't rush

Have you recieved the postcard from Cranwell saying they have recieved your application?

Hey! Thanks for your replies everyone

Hi TopChick!

I received a letter from my local AFCO about three days after my Filter Interview which said that my application had been forwarded to RAF Cranwell but I never got a post card from Cranwell .

I had my debrief interview at the AFCO this afternoon and they said that it can take anything up to a month or two to hear from them. Oh...I was really happy at the interview this afternoon because they were full of praise which was nice to hear lol

But regarding a postcard from Cranwell...I've received nothing.

Usually as far as i know Cranwell send a card to say they've recieved your application, mine took a few weeks.

Honestly I wouldnt worry too much just yet as was said up above there is a lot of hurry up and wait and not much consistency.

But that is great that you got a positive review, well done you! Like a lot of people here actually getting to OASC takes time, I had my Filter in April and Oasc in September:smile:

Keep revising whille you're waiting tho:smile:

HI!

I must have had my filter interview around the same time and a phone call from my AFCO a few days ago confirmed that my application hasn't even gone to Cranwell yet. So like everyone has said it does seem to be a laid back process. What kind of things were said at your debrief? I was given one there and then but he also said that I would need to go back a few weeks before OASC just to check things over.
As for timescales, he was mentioning February as a rough guess as to when OASC would be for me, so perhaps this would be about the same for you? This would mean IOT (fingers crossed, best case scenario etc.) around about June. He did say this was a very rough guess though.

Hope this helps.

Hey Angela!

At my debrief they seemed to be full of praise which was really good to hear. They just said that I am to act natural in the interview @ OASC and just keep doing Speed, Distance Time calculations

In terms of the timescales! February for OASC and then (hopefully) June for IOT would be fantastic! I'd be really happy if that happened

How did your filter interview go? Hope it went well.

Take care.

Hey!
So any word from Cranwell yet? I was surprised to receive the postcard yesterday. I was even more surprised to receive the invitation to OASC this morning! For the 16th January, which has certainly put the fear of God in me!

Hope all is going well,

Hey!

I got my postcard on Monday  I also got another letter with it stating that they needed a name of another referee. I put down three people initially (My English lecturer from college, my ATC Commanding Officer and a previous employer), the letter said that because I left the ATC and college 2004 they needed one more (more recent) person to contact. I rang College Cranwell on Monday and told them the name of someone else so I'm still waiting. Hopefully I might hear back in the next week or so... *crosses fingers*

Congratulations on being invited to OASC, I bet you're really pleased! I'll keep you informed if I hear anything

Take care

hey does anyone know the rough timescales between passing AIB or OASC and when you can start IOT? thanks

Reply 12

It depends. There really is no other answer.

Reply 13

Yeah thats true. I had my OASC last week, and know there is no chance of me making Jan IOT unless someone dropped out or something similar. So I'm hoping for a Jan start date which would bring the time between OASC and IOT to 4/5 months.

With my Navy application, I passed AIB 18th October and have been offered a place starting IOT at Dartmouth on January 2nd, which is quite a quick turnaround.

Does anyone know when the March IOT starts?

Reply 14

No, but I could work it out. If Jan IOT starts on the 7th then the next one should start 11 weeks after this I believe?

Got my letter from RAF College Cranwell this morning.

I'm going to OASC on 21st January... Heres to two months of intense prep.

Well done David:biggrin:

Incidentally, that is the day after my birthday:p:

Just to give you some idea of how long it *can* be:

Application in - Nov 2004
Filter - May 05
OASC - Dec 05
IOT - May 06

This may seem extended and drawn out, but this was because of my other commitments at the time i.e. getting time off work, notices etc but generally it was the earliest dates that RAF offered me.

It must just be exclusive to the Glasgow AFCO that they make you sit the Filter within two weeks of your P2 then. It seems strange because I did ask and they did say it - even when I questioned their reply with ''But, I was advised it lasted for 6 months...''.
