My friend Gail is a page 3 girl! Albeit a respectable one, since it's the Observer.

tomorrow + trimble = corpus victory, surely?

[still, I'm kind of shocked by the sheer bile of the bloggers]

While the Corpus team are very impressive, Trimble does come across as insufferably stuck up

I don't actually know her (although I'm sure Huw can give a personal rebuttal), but I'm pretty sure she's v. nice, and that she knows that much from working in the subjects, rather than non-thinking fact learning. The sheer quantity of classics questions is just ridiculous though - e.g. translating latin mottoes isn't going to be hard for a classics post-grad, and neither is recognising the story of the Aeneid - so sometimes I think she's just surprised at finding it so easy, and that maybe comes across badly.

I think it's a combination of the vagaries of how you come across on camera, and people seeing what they want\expect to see. I'd be surprised if there was as much venom if she went to Plymouth, say. Gail is very self-effacing in real life and in general one of the nicest people I know. From what the QuizSoc people I know say they all do a bit of learning trivia on purpose in addition to having good general knowledge anyway.

It does seem to be a show tailor-made for classicists, as there are invariably questions that any classicist will know but which are impenetrable to outsiders. Whereas the literature\history questions are relatively accessible to people with good general knowledge, as are the science ones other than the occasional one which is so specific that you'd have to be specialising in that particular field within a subject to have a clue. Plus there are clues in many questions along the lines of "from the Greek meaning...".

Aw no I thought we'd won gym? there are lots of photos of smiling people in dark blue leotards with gold-coloured medals round their necks popping up on my Facebook newsfeed :s

For the third Sunday in a row, internet has gone down in college... but for once it's back before Monday morning, which is a bit annoying coz I was actually getting some work done! Have an extra tute this week as was ill last week and had to move it. And the work is so uninteresting

That was the women's B team... was the only part we won (and by only 0.4 points), Cambridge wiped the floor with us in everything else.

    Hi everyone!

Well it's almost 3am and I'm still up, with no real reason to still be up and yet am failing to use these extra waking hours to read many articles that need reading!

In short, I thought it was about time I joined this thread! :hello:

Hallooooooo. I'm so glad someone else is up at this time for absolutely no good reason. I'm going to toast me some crumpets. :woo:

EDIT: Mmm, buttery, honeyey, crumpety goodness. One day I'll recalibrate my sleeping pattern, but until then, 4am crumpets are the way to go.

I think I'm going to start taking medicine to make me feel better. I can't be ill again  (well the last time I was really ill was last term...and that was terrible!)

You didn't toast me any crumpets!

All this talk of food makes me think, I probs should have bought food from Sainsburys. As in proper meal food, rather than just pancake/chocolate nest making ingredients... :ninja:
