Work experience occupational therapy

Hi, the uni I want to apply to says that it is strongly advised that we visit at least one occupational therapy clinic before applying. I am finding this hard because the ones I have rang up say that they don't take on people seeking work experience or that they are busy. I need to apply by December at the latest. I do voluntary work on a rehabilitation unit and have spoke to an OT but this is not the same as a clinic is it? What is the best thing to do, just apply anyway?

Thanks

By clinci I think they mean department. Therefore as long as you shadow at least one OT then you'll be fine. If you're havign trouble then use your contacts - thats what they're therefore. Speak to the OT on the unit you work at and see if you can spend a few days with them. They're more liekly to be receptive because they know of you and have seen you aruond rather than you being a complete stranger.

Thanks, yea I thought of that but the one that I spoke to said that we could talk next time I go to volunteer but I haven't seen her since, there are a few others but they don't look like they want to talk so I feel cheeky asking. I suppose Im going to have to though.

Could anyone give me advice on the personal statement? At college im doing a access to higher education course part time so have no personal tutor and Ive heard that the subject teacher I have doesn't help much. Im wondering if I should mention that I help my nan by doing her housework and taking her to the gp etc or would this be irrelevent?

just ask - they won't bite

personally? I think saying you help your nan with her housework and take her to the GP is kind of irrelevant - HOWEVER, depending on how you phrase it it COULD be made relevant. If you need lines to write about something else more important then leave it out. BUT if you can word it right then put it in if you have space....

if you want, put your PS in the PS helper forum and I'll take a look

I know I couldn't get work experienence in midwifery so I put a line in my PS about, 'as pregnancy is such an intimate and personal time I have been unable to gain any work experience in this field, however I have spoken to both qualified and student midwives and feel I have gained a good understanding of what the course and career involves.'

Maybe you could do something similar, say the patients are at a vunerable point in their lives or something, but mention you speaking to OTs and your volunteer work
