Now the UCAS application deadline is approaching, it’s easy to go into panic mode! I've got a few tips on how I dealt with my application for courses in Popular Music, and the things that really helped me complete it in time. Feel free to add things that have helped you that I may not have mentioned here.

Firstly, if you’re still unsure which universities to apply to, then I found it really useful to get in touch with the institutions by phone and ask any questions you have. Most places are really friendly and helpful, especially if you haven’t been able to attend an open day or visit the university! This is the best way to get your questions answered and will help you to make a decision faster. You could even see if they hold any live gigs or concerts for their students so you could go and even talk to the students afterwards.

When I was looking for the right places to apply, I made sure that I looked at all aspects of each institution including course, accommodation, area, etc. With some places I found I really liked the course, but I didn't like the facilities, so I tried to find a place that had more of a balance. The city was really important to me as a performer because I wanted to be close to a good music scene so I could gig often. Going through this process of elimination really helped me to narrow down my favourite places.

Also, posting on relevant threads like this one is great because you can chat with other people who want to do the same course! You could discuss which unis you’re going to apply to and even swap and check each other’s personal statements.

Lastly, ask someone if they could check your application over for you before you send it. It’s always good to have a pair of fresh eyes to read through your work to make sure that you haven’t missed anything out or made any spelling errors.
I hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions and discuss below!

    Best of luck!
    Jemma
