    Hi there I've taken a picture of the question along with answers from the answer paper. I can see it's not a complicated question yet I just don't get it!!! Can somebody please explain the answer?!!

    So when it's reached equilibrium then, since all products and reactants have the same stoichiometric coefficient, 0.54 moles of the reactants have reacted to form 0.54 moles of the ester and an additional 0.54 moles of water.

    So there is 0.54 moles less propanoic acid and ethanol but 0.54 moles more of water and ethyl propanoate than there were initially

    Do you understand now?

    Water is formed in the reaction, so since 0.54 moles of ester are formed then 0.54 moles of water are also formed, 5+0.54=5.54 moles

    I guess you could say that but I wouldn't use that as a general rule, it's just common sense really
