    ...for Lionel Messi.

This money situation is getting a little bit ridiculous now, no?

I know he's one of the best footballers in the world, but paying £200m for a player may be a bit over the top.

It's more than the Metro, granted, they are mediocre sources, yet others such as Express are saying similar.

Again, tabloid press. If it was the Telegraph, Guardian, BBC or Sky Sports I'd start to believe the interest.

Won't happen due to FFP. Maybe if they sell all their loan players they could make it work...

Because FFP has worked so well in the past.

Well it made City & PSG stop spending stupid amounts last summer, so clearly the big clubs are taking note.

IIRC it has scaled punishments based on the size of your losses, and presumably the loss they'd incur through a £200m transfer would be pretty substantial (unless they're planning to part fund it by selling the few hundred players they've got rotting in the reserves and out on loan thanks to their disgusting transfer policy), so the punishment would be fairly hefty. It's not had time to work well though: last season was the first season it applied to.

Mourinho would still play Willian over him at RW.

Btw, Messi is easily worth his buyout clause. Lionel Messi isn't a once in a generation footballer. He's not even a once in a lifetime footballer. Lionel Messi's just, once.

It's Messi we are talking about here (best on the planet). I honestly don't think that FFP will influence anything.

And City and PSG spent a fair amount last summer.

Of course this isn't implying that I think this deal will go ahead.

As a player alone he is worth that. (Relatively speaking of course). When you factor in the revenue he will bring to the club in other ways he more than pays for himself really.

They pay the transfer fee then pay the fine for going over the FFP rules. Failing that abramovich could get make one of his businesses sponsor chelsea for stupid money

I hate it because how many promising careers have Chelsea ruined by signing a player to make sure no other team gets them, then dumping them in the reserves. How many young players have faded into nothing because they're never given a chance?

They knew perfectly well what they were getting themselves into: $$$.

None of them give a **** if their careers take a nosedive upon joining the club as long as their on big money contracts. It's all about the money, Lebowski.

And those that didn't quite make it but aren't completely driven by money manage to make it out: De Bruyne.

Why would buying Messi make Chelsea break FFP rules? According to (http://www.financialfairplay.co.uk/f...-explained.php) they're allowed to make a loss of £35m over 3 years - seeing as they're currently making a profit and shirt sales alone would be incredible I think it would be fairly easy to stay within the rules without selling many players. Torres alone brought £60m in shirt sales in the first year, add that to the Champions League earnings (partly) due to his winning goal vs Barcelona and he gave them a huge profit (ignoring wages)!

Never thought he would leave Barca but 200m wow....that's crazy.

He could be a flop, PL is different from LA liga
