Anyone doing an exams in CCEA in Northern Ireland???
How did you get on in your exams??
Any issues you want to address??
i ccea maths, really ragged bout it, it was rather easy this year, but i know i done shite in it, did u do maths? i have a question on it that still annoys me.
did you do GCSE/AS/A2 maths?
I recently sat the AS edexcel maths but have done other subjects in CCEA
What was the question?
I did CCEA A2 maths, P2 and P3.
Find the coordinates of any turning points on the curve:
determine the nature of these turning points
i think i diff using quotient rule twice or something.
dy/dx = (6xe^x - 3x^2e^x)/e^x^2 = 0 for a turning point.
Denominator can't be zero, so 6xe^x - 3x^2e^x = 0
e^x(6x - 3x^2) = 0
Again, e^x can't be zero. Solving the quadratic, gives x = 2 and x = 0. Can easily find out the y co-ords, so I've not done it.
d^2y/dx^2 = [e^x^2(6e^x - 3x^2e^x) - 2xe^x^2(6xe^x - 3x^2e^x)]/(e^x^2)^2
I hope that's right.. gives me the right results.
Sub in x = 2 and d^2y/dx^2 < 0, so therefore a max. x = 0 and d^2y/dx^2 > 0, so it's a minimum.
Hope that helps.
thanks. what did u think of the maths this year?
I hear Edexcel Maths was hard this year. CCEA A level maths was rather straight forward. in comparison to everyother year beforehand. I was looking at the P3 Edexcel Jun 03, but i thought it looked ok, however there didn't seem to be enough time to answer each question, as well as very little marks for the amount of working out that had to be done, even though the paper is 75 raw marks, that didn't seem enough for that paper.
