Either go onto to post-grad study and do lecturing, or get some experience in the finance industry before setting up my own consultancy business.

Yeh, well it could be 5 if I also do a year in industry between the 2rd and 3rd years. I doubt i'll do that though.

maybe do a masters if i fail to get a job in banking or finance, and then after my masters set up my own business if i don't get into banking.
Masters...or possibly some further degree after in the US

do a masters in economics or a phd, and/or go into graduate entry medicine.

Feet up, sleeping for 50 years then die..... too soon?

Trying to get into actuary at the moment, as well as Economics researching (and consultancy although shying away from that at the moment, don't like the level of BS involved).

But I graduated in July, I don't plan to do a masters without some experience to better direct my masters research...

Not sure yet. I'm hoping to do a year in industry with Ernst & Young, if I enjoy accountancy then i'll go back there after my degree, if not some-where else in the finance industry

I will only do a masters if I wanna stay uni, but not for purposes of bulking up my CV. In my opinion investment banking/funds is where its at, not just in terms of salary but in terms of prestige. Many of these people haven't been to uni, but barclays capital is looking for educated economics grads, and this is a salary of 250+. It also said in the paper that in the next ten years the value of an economics degree will become greater. SO I AGREE WITH SARAH B FINANCIAL SECTOR IS THE BEST PATH FPR AN ECON GRAD.

Sarah B doesn't argue that. There is no 'best path for an econ grad' and I'm also pretty sure Barcap don't pay £250,000 to Econ Graduates. And what do you mean prestige?
i wouldve thought diplomacy would have MUCH greater prestige over an investment bank, but if you people are happy to wake up at 5.30am and come home at 8pm that your life.

it's hard for investment bankers to have a life according to my economic's teacher (he us2 be one for 8 yrs), he told the class that the career's lifeless, especialy for those who have or are planning to bring up a family. however he did mention that the salary/bonus payments are a lot!!!

but what do you guys think..?

I think I want to do a phD eventually. And doing I.B. could be great for a while maybe just to get some money but it is a bit soulless and I think it would be impossible to have a life, so I don't think it's me.

I'd love to do something like diplomacy or work on projects in the developing world to try and boost their economies and stuff- does any one know whats the best way to get into these kind of careers?

It depends, but probably find work if I get into 1-4th choice uni, or do a masters if I go to my 5-6th uni.

Work at the World Bank, helping countries all over the world on economical policies.

Can you do that with an Eco degree?
