Keele is my firm choice for September (Literature) and I'm wondering what the alternative scene is like at the Uni and in the surrounding area. I don't want to be the only one like yay, metal

    Hi there!

As a recent student at Keele University, and now a Graduate Assistant here too, I could perhaps answer your question here!

There's such a range of clubs and societies here at the University that may take your fancy! With your interest in rock and alternative music, a popular society that many with rock/metal music tastes join is the Keele Rock Appreciation Posse (alternatively known as KRAP - Check out their website here: http://keelekrap.moonfruit.com/home/4584748170).
They hold plenty of socials and get-togethers in the halls bars and the Students' Union!

If you take a look at Keele SU Societies page, you'll see that there are so many societies to get involved with, and a whole category showcasing the variety of music societies we have. http://keelesu.com/activities/clubs-societies/

Offsite there's a venue in Hanley called the Sugarmill, which holds loads of clubnights and live music gigs. A popular night being Electric Fridays, which is an alternative music club night.

I'm sure there's something here to suit what you're after! Let me know if you have any other questions, and I hope I've helped!
