hmmmmmmm....I kind of drifted through the IB, I really didnt think about whether it was hard work or not because I had nothing to compare it with. We all complained about the IB but I dont think it was that bad. I did HL Maths Phys Chem, SL Eng Span and Hist. The only probs were in HL maths where I worked my arse of for a 6, and the volume of coursework for HL Chem, which out teacher marked too leniantly resulting in a -25% moderation so that only 2 peeps in the whole set got 7s. I got 42 points inc. 3 bonus ones. I still went out every friday, and rarely worked more than 2-3hrs in the evening, so no, the IB didnt ruin my life.
Im gonna get so much neg rep for this lol!

U guys seriously overemphasize the difficulty of the I.B. In the school were I went evry1 goes out Friday and Saturdays and waste tremendous amounts of time in caffes ect. I.B. can only ruin ur life if you let. If you compare it to peaople taking the French bac you will notice that it rally isnt that hard. These poor kids slave for two years and barely go out on weekends when they are in Terminale.
Bassically stop whinning it really isnt that bad.

I totally agree with you. The IB was tough, but I was never at the point that it ruined my life. I really dont understand how ya'll can just study 24/7- It's all about the balance you guys......weekends is the time to chill out, go to town and stuff and then sunday night to work a lil......I mean, the IB wasn't easy...and I put in quite a lot of work, but it wasnt impossible. I'm not gonna get 42 points, but more like 35/36.
Anywayu u guys, actually, I dont think the IB would've been that hard if it wasn't for all the coursework. the Chem practicals were really quite hard and my teacher marked them really really strict........
History coursework was a pain in the ass too......but in the end we managed it all, didnt we?!

Hmm there seem to be two extremes here......

In my case, IB didn't ruin my life. Nor did it not change it either. I had the toughest English teacher ever that made us right 3000 words analysises on books every week (Sparknotes was useless compared to the detail we had to put in :'( I never used it), not to mention writing the 80 page analysis of a book during the summer in 11th grade (I swear she didn't read everything). This was combined with the other work I had in IB and the myriad of activities I did (I did 15 CAS activities). I would be lying if I said I had enough time to go out on weekends, coz I didn't most of the time. Infact, I didn't sleep most weekends b/c of the work (mainly English...).

However, most Friday nights I did hang out with my friends. Most of the time after school i'd hang out for a coffee at Starbucks. There were even some weeks where I had hardly any work which scared me. I had hockey matches every weekend, and singing concerts on Friday nights. Life still went on . And although it was hard to hang in there during school term, I still went clubbin and what not during the break.

IB was tough, but it didn't ruin my life. I guess it partially depends on your teachers.

Ironically i'm still doing IB.....haha......9 more exams..

I have forgotten what life is to be able to comment apon this question *.*
But what i do knw is how to:

Analyse literature, (simily, pathetic falicy etc)

Solve Differential Equations simultaniously with Answering Laws of The
Special Theory of Relativity

How a quark makes up atoms

The calculations of price elasticity

The nature of the ozone layer

Surely this will help me in whatever it is i am living right this moment
Reply 13
very philosophical!!!!

I think you meant to say how quarks make up atoms rather than how a quark makes up atoms...hehe...sorry!!

Cogito ergo IB

I so agree, i went through the IB without much stress and now during the exams im not that stressed either. I left most of my essays and tok presentations and essays till the end but i didnt feel that it was a lot of work at one time, mostly because i didnt get any homework from like 3 subjects
CAS my ass

That made me laugh

I wouldn't say it's TOTALLY ruined my life..but it's certainly changed some aspects of it which I didn't want changed too...

CAS wasn't that tough to finish up, but the essays and presentations were time consuming in terms of researching them and stuff. For the 1st year of IB, it was okay..I could play ice hockey and get everything done too. I could still play computer games, surf the net, chat with friends and stuff. The 2nd year, everything took up more time, so my parents suggested that I don't play hockey, reduce computer games and net surfing in favor of more studying (particularly around now)...

You see, I didn't HAVE too much of a social life before, so it hasn't impacted that much, but IB's impacted the fun aspect of my life (in a bad way)

IB is not harder than what you make it to be. Everything is more or less optional, you don't have to study and do your homework if you don't want to. I have only done the stuff I need to do, such as world lits, lab reports etc. It really is not that bad, I'm guessing I studied on average an hour a week at home. If you listen properly during lesson time you should be able to pick up the important things anyway. And oh yeah, CAS and TOK is bullshit (and nothing you should waste time on).

What is the IB?
I've heard that it's something like International lBaccalaureate
Is it really hard?
I'm in Year 8 and go to school that probably won't do it.
Should I try to organise something?

IB is like sixth form/ A levels in UK, which is after GCSE
It is much harder than A levels because in the IB we are expected to take so much more. In A level, you just take 3 subjects and thats it, in the IB we have to take 6, and do CAS, TOK essay and presentation, world literature and extended essay.
Universities now prefer the IB system to the A levels, but they dont really understand it.

If you are in the UK, there are some schools where you can take it if you really want to
