Insomnia?

I find it very hard to sleep at night, usually i lie awake for about 2 hours in bed before i finally drift off, even if i feel really tired and go to bed late. Then I rarely sleep for more than 1 or 2 hours at a time before i wake up again and have to repeat the whole process again. This wasnt such a big problem before, but its been getting worse since ive been at uni, as im doing so many things and can no longer just shake off the tiredness through the day. Its not like a have nightmares or anything so cant sleep, it just feels like my brain cant switch off, then the more i try to get to sleep, the worse it gets.

Does anyone have any advice as to how i could improve my sleep, or know of the kind of person i need to speak to about this?? If its keeps getting worse im going to go to my doctors soon, will he refer me to some kind of sleep specialist?

Go to the doctors, have you tried any type of herbal teas or sleeping pills?

I did try sleeping pills, but they werent really very effective. Plus, my dad used to take sleeping pills to get to sleep, but now he finds it even harder to sleep normally as his sleep has become dependent on them, and I dont want to be in that situation

Doctors aren't fabulous at helping to be honest. As I mentioned earlier tooday, I either write down what's bothering me or listen to music and sing the song over and over again. Sometimes Horlicks works.

Listen to music on your mp3 if you have one. Quite a few times I just fall asleep while the music is going. And when I wake up I usually keep singing the songs i was listening to when asleep lol.

This works very well for me to tell the truth.

OK this just proves my point...i went to bed at around 1ish, I havent yet fallen asleep, I have just lied in my bed for about 2.5hours trying some of those things and they havent worked, now im at the point (again) where i feel like i would be more productive by staying up and doing some work or something$ than actually trying to sleep and get some rest
