Yes. Very good idea. It's cheap and easy exercise, and you get some fresh air and a chance to look around. Go for it!

Yes. Like any exercise would, with the right diet.

you burn calories while walking so you will lose weight

Weight loss = calorie deficit. You can achieve this through any combination of diet and exercise, and more walking = more calories burned.

Yes, most definitely. Walking is perfect light exercise, which is really all you need unless you're seriously unhealthy or need to build up muscle mass, etc. Doctors recommend around 20 minutes a day light exercise all the time, and if you're trying to lose some weight, walking up to 30-40 minutes will do no harm whatsoever and help you onto the right track. Make sure to drink lots of water as well.

Last year at uni I walked the 30mins to uni & back most days. I also cut down on the amount of junk food I ate (but not completely!) & other than that ate normally. Over the year I lost a fair bit of weight & went down a clothing size. Now my prob is my clothes don't fit & I have no money to buy new ones!

A power walk means you burn calories, and with a fixed diet and every week cut it by 250 calories you will start to loose weight.

But I cant stress its a marathon,. I see too many people think they will see immeadiate effects in weight loss and weight training.

But ye a walk is a good idea, keeps you active and after a month or so you will see an improvement...

From personal experience I'd say yup, defo. When I started 6th form I changed my diet to be more healthy (ie. i had skimmed milk on cereal instead of whole milk, and just a sandwich and apple for lunch instead of a packet of crisps as well, etc. etc.) and cos the bus fares went up (adult fare in london is a rip off) I started walking. I only walked home (not to school cos it's slightly uphill and one doesn't do hills), but it was nearly 2 miles and a half hour journey. Also, I walk extremely quickly, so naturally the puppy-fat dropped off. I went from nearly 10st and a size 12/14 to 8st12 and a size 10 in a period of 1 year (I'm 5'5"). So there you have it.

No offence, but a year to lose 16 lbs is a long time.

Losing weight over a longer period is infinitely better than losing it over a shorter one.

i heard that walking does help you lose weight, but it would eventually take ages to actually lose the weight and see the difference.

Depends on how many calories your burn and how much you walk :stickyman

She was already quite slim. The fat won't drop of as quickly if you don't have a lot to lose.
