Black music/Rap music watch

    • Thread Starter

Should Rap, be called Black music?
Is it right for it to be called rap music?

    This is my opinion.
Yes the rhythmic telling of stories to the beat of a drum can be argued to have come from African, most specifically west african countries,
    Sure, its black dominated.
But does that mean, it should be called black music?
Take into consideration that not all africans are black
    there are white rappers
the blues is also an african american originated genre
classical music and other of the type aren't called white music.

Usually, when people call it black music around me, the next statement that comes out is usually to criticise it. This upsets me, and may or may not affect how i feel about the term. I just want opinions, clear and concise on what you think about this.

I feel, calling it black music tbh is stereotypical, and just wrong. I feel the fact that it has been named 'Rap' should be sufficient.

No it shouldn't be called black music it dosent belong to them and music belongs to everyone.
Have you ever experienced racism/sexism at uni?
