So I got horrible results blah blah (3 D's, I know its bad) and I'm reapplying to uni for september 2015 and I can't decide whether to add in something about resitting my exams and taking a year off in my personal statement (I know I'm leaving it late but i have it already written out and I'm still waiting for my reference).

I know a lot of people say to write that you're doing volunteer work or paid work but I haven't been able to find any volunteer work in my area (believe me I've tried) and I'm in the middle of applying for a temporary job but the application takes over a month because of background checks and stuff.

So i've basically been doing nothing so far this year apart from revising and helping out with my parents buisiness and just around the house. (I'm very bored) I'm not sure if I plan to go travelling this year either- I wouldn't mind interrailing around europe but nothing is set in stone as I'm not sure if I'll have the money for it.

So what do I put in my personal statement? should I mention that I have vague plans of travelling and plan to start working? or should i just say that I had to take a year out and am resitting exams? (I haven't mentioned it at all so far)

They will see from your pending results that you are resitting exams. Just tell the truth, it doesn't have to be in much detail - a sentence or two. Say you've been working and that you are applying for other things. You should mention things that you've done that are relevant to your chosen course, like extra reading
