The Biggest Decision of my life

Ok, Basically my Dilema!

Im at Uni, Girlfriend at a differnt Uni far away! (other end of the country!) Having a pretty crap time if im honest! Basically i have the opotunity to transfer to her uni, and continue on the same course!
I really love her although ive only been with her for a relatively short amount of time! (5months) we are really close, having spent most of the summer together, gone on holiday together etc...

Anyway Basically i have to decide tomorrow what i do! and i have to be at the other uni by october the 31st. I want to know what you would all do in my situation?

To be honest i am quite keen!

Am i making the biggest mistake of my life??!!

Any comments would be helpful! cheers

Well really it is entirely down to you and how you feel, you might want to talk to her about it and see how she feels about it.

If you're able to transfer and stay on the same course, you're hardly throwing it all away to be with her. If you won't be jeopardising your chances of academic sucess by transferring, that at least means you won't have to choose between being with your girlfriend and acheiving your qualifications.

What uni would you be transfering from/to?

Are you enjoying uni without her? 5 months is pretty short to be moving to aanother uni to be with her (how far are they from eachother?)
What do your parents think? What about friends?
In short - we need more info!

Well she is pretty keen too. Although i ask her whether she would do the same in my situation and she says she doesn't know. she thinks she would be to scared. which is fair enough im quite scared myself to be honest!
I told some of my house mates how i was feeling tonight, and they seem to think im making a big mistake! They think i would suffocate her, they think im moving for the wrong reasons, they think i will feel better soon. basically they want me to stay! But then i feel that to do well in my course i need to be happy, and where i am in my current state of mind im not. Also the Uni which she is at is bigger and more social then where i currently am and the course is similar.
I just feel at her uni i will have everything i have here and more!

Also spoke to parents, they seemed ok about it, bit worried about the work i would have to catch up on! and the £600 of accommodation fees i would have to pay off as extra!

Your right, 5 months is short, though it feels a lot longer! I spent alot of the summer with her, went on holiday etc. at the moment i am 3 and a half hours away costing £34 to get there with a young persons rail card by train.

Ive also looked at transfering after a year, but for that there is a chance i could get stuck between unis, if i didnt make nottinghams entry requirements! which is quite a risk!

Really?! Bath is a better uni, but everyone I've spoken to at Notts is having an AMAZING time, whilst the people I know at Bath are enjoying it. Is the course just as good? I'd say Bath was a better uni. And is the £600 termly, or just a one-off payment?

How is Bath a better uni?

I'd go for it. Academically the unis are of a similar par, so in the end you haven't lost anything academically. And you have the chance to make things more serious with her, and even if it doesn't work out, you weren't particularly happy at Bath in the first place, so you might meet nicer people and get the chance for a fresh start at Nottingham.

It sounds like the negative factors are fairly minor - catching up on work isn't all that bad, and the extra accomodation money isn't going to be much compared to your overall costs at university. I think you've made it pretty clear when you said you need to be happy to do well and that you're not happy now that this could be good not just socially but academically. Both universities are good, so I think that looking purely at the factors you've described, the transfer seems like it could be a good idea.

Biology, Bath is slightly better yeah! though both have the same entry requirements, In the biology league table which bath uni keep showing us lol bath are 5th nottingham 16th though in the main league tables only a small difference 10th and 11th i think! Nottingham does seem a lot more social when i went to visit her, Much more to do! Bath is very quiet! especially weekends!
