I've been looking at university accommodation options and noticed that a few offer the chance to share a room. Is this meant for people who have someone in their head to share a room with, or can you be allocated randomly? Would it be a strange but nice way of making a new friend? Or would it be an awful idea to share with a stranger?

You'd be given the option of a twin or single room - they wouldn't normally plonk you with someone if you didn't want to share. With a twin room, you'd have a new friend straight away, plus also the rental cost is usually less than a normal single room

See, I think I kind of want to share. It's like a shortcut to making a friend! (hopefully) I think it'd be good to throw myself in at the deep end!

That's sounds awful to me. You'll have no privacy.
