An odd question about pregnancy tests

Ok so I'm doing experiments for the psych department and because they want to do brain scanning I have to take a pregnancy test first just in case. The chances are a million to 1 but I still have to take it if I've had sex @ all in the last 9 months. Anyway I've only ever done this before when I've actually skipped a period so I'm really not sure about how one goes about taking a pregnancy test when everything seems normal (still having periods but i'm on the pill so apparently they could carry on even if I was pregnant). When it says that you can only do it within so many days of your period that applies to your first period right? As in the test will only work from 4 days before your first period after having sex - if it's been 2 months then it doesn't matter I can just take the thing anyway cos the hormone levels will be high enough?

Grr just don't wanna have to take another one of these if I get it wrong...

I would lask the psych department. It's their requirement, so they need to advise you on what to use.

but pregnancy tests arent 100% accurate are they? by their logic you could still be pregnant anyway?

You will just use a urine sample as usual. If everything is normal as you say it will certainly be negative, unless you have had unprotected sex in the last week or two and could be pregnant from that, yet have a false negative result.
The hormone the pregnancy test looks for isn't one of the ones which fluctuate due to your period. It will only be found in pregnant women.
