I've got an english lit aqa gcse mock tomorrow.
I was just wondering, when you're given a part a question (given passage to work from etc.), are you allowed to make reference to the rest of the novel?
I usually find that I have good ideas to reference the rest of the novel but I'm not sure whether you're allowed to do that.

If someone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful, thanks!

Well technically, it does not say you aren't allowed. However, if you did refer to any other part from that extract presented in front of you, the examiner will just discard what you have point and not credit it.

Part A is only focusing on the passage only, not anything else. Part B is the one where you have to refer to your chosen text as a whole.
